Tips for Leaders
The following tips were given by a long time scouting leader:
·         Organize for success!  Decide what you want to accomplish with your scouts and schedule what you'll do at each activity to accomplish your goals.

·         Find a plan for tracking your scouts progress.  Idea, check www.etrailtoeagle.com

·         Use your resources.  Merit Badge Counselors can come to your activities and help teach topics.  The extra benefit is that they can also sign the blue cards!

·         Work with other Scout leaders.  Communicating with the Scoutmaster to know what they boys will be doing after they turn 12 will help you decide what merit badges to focus on with them.  Communicating with the advancement chairperson will ensure that everything you are doing with the boys is getting logged with the BSA.

·         "Be Prepared" for each activity
o    Have something productive for them to do as soon as they get there.
§  rope, let them practice tying the required knots:
§  have cards with the "motto", "oath", "slogan" and "promise" on them and have the boys quiz each other

§  review with them what the activity that day will be.
